Now Available For Pre-Order! January 06 2017

BBQ aka Mark Sultan’s new self-titled album!

This is Mark’s first solo album in over FIVE years and it finds him in one-man-band mode for the first time since 2005’s Tie Your Noose album on BOMP! Twelve band new tracks that are raw yet loud rather than lo-fi. You know him from his work in The King Khan & BBQ Show, Thee Almighty Defenders, Ding Dongs and Les Sexareenos. You’ve loved his soulful croon on songs like “Waddling’ Around” and “Too Much In Love”. You’ve marveled at his out of control stage antics. Any fan of moody garage, dirty R&B and tragic rock n’ roll knows they need this new album! Available on LP and CD. The first 200 LPs on beautiful color vinyl.

CHROME REVERSE - They Wanna Fight LP (Mag Wheels Records, France)

Here comes the long awaited debut album after a handful of 45's from Parisian band CHROME REVERSE, formed by Lili Z. and Iwan (previously in snotty garage bands like  No-Talents, Splash Four, Les Terribles, Loud Mufflers, Volt etc.) to do the stuff they’d always been obsessed with—R&B primitivism and dirty, early 60's R'n'R (known in Frogland as "white rock").

Stripped down roquers, weird rompin' strollers, cranked up guitar instrumentals, 5 covers by some of their late 50's heroes as well as their own Lili Z. penned bent tunes are but a sampling of the many moods of CHROME REVERSE's "They wanna fight". If you like your R'n'R raw, sloppy, greasy and frantic topped with a chick screaming her lungs & heart out, this one's for you. A Hot and Heavily recommended LP! If you dig early CRAMPS and "Big Pine Boogie" era Gibson Bros, etc. they'll certainly be your alley.

CHROME REVERSE - four track EP (Kizmiaz Records)

This single was pressed in a very small quantity. We have the last copies! Get it while you can!

SHIPPING STARTS IN MID-JANUARY!

NEW SOUNDS FROM DETROIT!! September 26 2016

We’re proud to announce three new Detroit based albums available for pre-order starting Monday, September 26th at noon PST.

DANNY & the DARLEANS - Bug Out  LP/CD

Dan Kroha is no stranger to fans of Detroit rock n’ roll having been a founding member of the legendary Gories as well as playing in bands like the Demolition Doll Rods, Rocket 455 and his solo blues project. In the Darleans Danny takes it back to his garage rock roots playing straight-up, no-frills, hard-hitting, Rn’B influenced house rockers. This is killer stuff from the real deal!

TYVEK - Origin Of What  LP/CD

Tyvek are back with their first studio full length since 2012’s On Triple Beams and it's well worth the wait.Their signature punk-DIY-lo-fi-off kilter music has never sounded better. You’ll hate yourself if you sleep on this one!

THE INTENDED - Time Will Tell  LP/CD

The debut album from Detroit’s The Intended is sure to please anyone lucky enough to get their hands on the band’s debut single on All Gone records. Consisting of some current and previous members of Tyvek and the Odd Clouds, The Intended mine similar musical territory in a slightly more basement psychedelic, unsteady way. The results are incredible!

All available in limited color vinyl. Ships late October.

Ex-Cult / The Lasters / T-Shirts + More! September 14 2016

Hear ye! Here ye! Lots of new items available for Pre-Order

Ex-Cult - Attention Ritual LP/CD

In the year of the snitch, there are forces beyond your control that keep you up at night. Ghost notions that swirl around your room while you sleep. Your own pillow laughing right in your face while you fight for an hour of rest. There are voices that whisper from the corner, telling you everything you never wanted to hear. ‘Negative Growth’, our third album, is dedicated to fear and deception.

This collection of songs were conceived in Memphis and finalized in Los Angeles, with the help of our family doctor Ty Segall. It was created in February 2016, when we traded Memphis misery for a week of California sunshine. ‘Negative Growth’ is a nine-track nightmare, a death trip in the crystal ship. Out later this year, the institution known as In The Red Records will do the honors. The Hollywood Heat Seeker takes ten years off your life. - Chris Shaw

First 200 on Limited Edition Orange Vinyl. First come, first served. No guarentees,

The Lasters - Kind of Blew LP

In The Red is proud to announce a co-release with our friends at Futilitarian Records; the debut full-length from The Laster titled Kind Of Blew. After three killer singles of anti-social punk rock the band have delivered a 19 track LP that tops all of their singles. Comes in handmade sleeves (each one unique). Edition of 200. They’ll go quick.

The Klitz - Live at the Well 7"

Live at the Well is the second archival release of Memphis' first punk band, The Klitz. Recorded in 1979 and 1980, these four tracks contain two Klitz originals (never properly recorded in a demo/home studio) and two covers—The Cramps' "TV Set" and the Velvet Underground's "AfterHours." Featuring the classic Klitz lineup of Gail Elise Clifton, Lesa Aldridge, Marcia Clifton and Amy Gassner (with the Randy Band's Randy Chertow filling in on bass), the record comes with an oral history by Ryan Leach.

Mentored by Alex Chilton and Jim Dickinson, The Klitz were equal parts Shaggs and Panther Burns. Although they never released a record during their initial '78-'80 run, their influence on Memphis punk is undeniable. Live at the Well should appeal to fans of Stranded in Canton and Like Flies on Sherbert. Released by our friends at Spacecase Records.

Bored Out - Interviews by Ryan Leach

Also from Spacecase Records comes Bored Out. A collection of Ryan Leach’s interviews (Razorcake and Terminal Boredom), spanning the years 2005 to 2016. Interviewees include John Talley–Jones (Urinals), Dave Alvin, Bruce Moreland (Wall of Voodoo, Nervous Gender), Kid Congo Powers, Eric Friedl (Oblivians, Goner Records), Larry Hardy (In the Red), Jeffrey Evans, James Arthur, John Felice (Real Kids, Modern Lovers), Robert Scott (Clean, Bats, Electric Blood) and more. Includes oral histories on the Gun Club, Consumers and Memphis’ first punk band, the Klitz. Foreword by Gerard Cosloy.

BOSS HOG - Brood Star 12” EP
New York City’s most dangerous rock’n’roll band, Boss Hog, is back with BROOD STAR, a four song Maxi-Disco 12-inch, distilled, vivisected, surgically altered, bound, spindled, remixed and mutilated into a tantalizing amuse-bouche for their forthcoming full-length album, BROOD X.
BOSS HOG has traveled to the edge of the physical realm and the far side of human comprehension to bring back an unprecedented listening experience.
BROOD STAR is a scalding hot treat, broiled by cosmic rays, and ripped from the furthest reaches of the audible universe.
BROOD STAR swarms like prehistoric insects rising out of deep hibernation.
BROOD STAR is primitive, raw, punk rock’n’roll, re-imagined for a New World.
AND THE ONLY THING MISSING... IS THE POWER OF YOUR MIND.
BOSS HOG NEEDS YOUR IMAGINATION TO COMPLETE THIS RECORD.
ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH TO JOIN BOSS HOG, and become part of the BROOD STAR?
Listen to BROOD STAR now. Feel it unfold inside of your brain.
Succumb to your future.
A world without war.
A world without pain.
Do not attempt to adjust your stereo.
Boss Hog was formed in 1989 by Cristina Martinez and Jon Spencer. The band has released three disturbed and sexually incendiary studio albums and as many EPs, along with numerous slashing, unparalleled singles, on the world’s most important record labels, including Amphetamine Reptile, In The Red, and DGC/Geffen. Boss Hog is internationally-known as New York City’s most provocative and original rock’n’roll band.

REDD KROSS / The SIDE EYES - “Songs That Chargo Taught Us” split 7”
In The Red is over the moon to announce the release of this new split single by REDD KROSS and The SIDE EYES. REDD KROSS should need no introduction so we’ll just say that they are the finest purveyors of punk-glam-pop-metal in the world and one of the best band’s to come out of Los Angeles ever. Fronted by brothers Jeff and Steve McDonald, the band started out in the late 70’s LA punk scene when they were 12 and 15 years old! They’ve continued to record the entire time releasing one amazing record after another.
The Side Eyes are a brand new Los Angeles punk band fronted by Astrid McDonald, daughter of Jeff from Redd Kross and Charlotte Caffey (Go-Go’s). The Side Eyes are a ferocious young punk band whose sound recalls early punk bands like The Bags and Avengers and they play with a heaviness that would make Mudhoney or Fuzz proud. Their live shows are frantic, aggressive and incredible.
One this single both bands have recorded renditions of songs written by Charlotte “Chargo” Caffey back in her early punk rock days. The Side Eyes do “Don’t Talk To Me” originally recorded by Charlotte’s band The Eyes. Redd Kross tackle “Screaming” a very early Go-Go’s song. Both are incredible! You need this!
Limited edition blue vinyl!

LORD HIGH FIXERS - Beginning Of The End…The End Of The Beginning double LP
Originally released on CD only back in 2002 when vinyl sales were in the toilet, our pals at Momentum Records have wisely seen fit to give it a release on vinyl. This double LP was pressed in a small edition and likely won’t be around long.

Six New Releases from In The Red! November 13 2015

That's right, SIX new release from IN THE RED!!!!!

The Wolfmanhattan Project – Smells Like You / You Are My Glue 7”

Brand new band featuring Mick Collins, Kid Congo and Bob Bert. Sounds like the sort of trashy, swampy, sleazy, damaged music you'd expect from the gentlemen involved. Housed in a beautiful color gatefold sleeve. An album will follow soon(ish). The first 200 on color vinyl.

Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds – Bruce Juice / El Cucuy 7”

Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds will be dropping their latest and strongest album in early 2016. To prime the pump they are releasing this new single featuring two brand new tracks not featured on the upcoming album. The first 200 on color vinyl.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Human Obscene / Shake That Bat 7”

Installment number seven in JSBX's jukebox singles series. As with the previous six, features two exclusive tracks that lean towards the band's more rocking and spastic side. No color vinyl – Jon says anything but black vinyl is “for sissies”.

Ex-Cult – Stick The Knife In / Dogs Roll In / New Crawl 7”

Three brand new blazing tracks from Memphis' Ex-Cult, whose previous releases on Goner and Castle Face are must haves. Watch for a new album on ITR in 2016. The first 200 on color vinyl.

GØGGS – She Got Harder / Billy Is A Runaway 7”

GØGGS is the brain child of Chris Shaw (Ex-Cult) and Ty Segall. The band had been in the planning stages for a long time but finally came together in 2015 when they convened in Ty's Los Angeles studio to record an album, which will be released next year. Other participants in the project include Cory Hanson (Wand), Charles Moothart (Fuzz) and Mikal Cronin. This single features an original from the album on the A side and an Iggy Pop cover on the B side that's exclusive to this 7”. The first 200 on color vinyl.

Milk Lines – Ceramic LP/CD

Toronto natives Jeff Clarke (Demons Claws, Hell Shovel) and Emily Frances team up in this awesome new band that is equal parts country, jangly-pop, experimental, psychedelic rock n'roll. This debut album is a stunner!! If you missed them on their recent tour supporting The King Khan & BBQ Show you're bummed! This band is amazing! The first 200 on color vinyl.

PRE-ORDER STARTS FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13TH @ NOON PST!

It came from the GØGGS September 29 2015

LISTEN TO THE A SIDE OF THE UPCOMING SINGLE "SHE GOT HARDER" HERE:

https://soundcloud.com/blankfrank13/goggs-she-got-harder

CHAPTER ONE: GØGGS IS BORN.

Ty and I decided we were going to start a band together when Ex-Cult opened for his band on the Slaughterhouse tour in 2013. A couple years later when the plans were solidified, it only made sense that thrash master Charles Moothart should get in on the experience. The three of us have been friends for years at this point, crashing at each others houses and riffling through each others record collections after a night of performing, partying, or both. This is not a side-project, it is a necessity. GØGGS is three heads, one spine, circling the drain of the wasteland known as mother earth.

The A side to the debut single "She Got Harder" (out this November on In The Red Records) is one of the first songs we came up for this project, with an Iggy Pop cover (Featuring Zumi Rosow) thrown on the B-Side for maximum damage. The album dropping next year (featuring guests Cory Hanson of Wand, Denee Petracek of Vial, and Mikal Cronin) will lead us into the second chapter of the GØGGS saga. Smoke the Wurm. A new player enters the game.  –Chris Shaw

Fuzz has abandonment issues. Abandoning expectation. Abandoning reservation, consummation, resignation, and trite dictation. Instinct is all there is when it comes to the divination of harsh salvation. Segall, Moothart, and Ubovich are exploring all the blank-ations of what will be, or has always been, Fuzz II. Tried and true methods mixed with tongue twisting, teeth shattering, seizure-inducing stabs at the norm. Who knows … maybe that’s wrong. Maybe it’s all done. Played out. Maybe it’s not for want of new but for lack of old. But probably not. Bathe in the heat wave that is Fuzz, and regret nothing in the time freeze. Necessity is the mother of creation; and devolution stakes its claim in the past as it continues to bind itself to the future.

San Francisco, Los Angeles, heaven, hell, lunar fields, subterranean hallucinations, traffic jams, sleepless days, hazy nights, recollection or blind reflection. It is all there and so should be you. 2015 will bring a new surge of slime, fuzz, and otherwise bittersweet concoctions of earthly lettering. It will be heavy, chaotically controlled, softly serpentine, and blindingly barbaric. To translate the auditory from ethereal to saliva soaked semantics is to shatter a promise as it’s made. In the meantime, Ty, Charles, and Chad walk on. It is what it is. Just like everything else. And if you don’t know, now you know. This message brought to you by In the Red Educational Services … as it was before and is it will be again.

The new Intelligence record has arrived! September 03 2015

THE INTELLIGENCE- VINTAGE FUTURE

In The Red is proud to present a brand new full length release from The Intelligence. Available on LP/CD. First 200 LPs on ORANGE vinyl.

Order now: http://intheredrecords.com/products/the-intelligence-vintage-future

Fittingly born at the dawn of the 21st Century, The Intelligence’s brand of art-smarm surf has become a touchstone for with-it rock ’n’ roll of the era. Perhaps a surprising assertion, especially considering their primitive and personal origins, but one cemented by the dedication and continual reinvention fostered by main-brain Lars Aldric Finberg. For all their longevity and prolificacy, The Intelligence is a restless, ever-evolving vehicle for Finberg, showcasing his presumably patented knack for sharp pop songwriting that rides waves from both the past and heretofore unknown. Hence the emergence of Vintage Future, the band’s latest album.

Finberg has always playfully flashed fangs with The Intelligence, but the hard targeting here makes Vintage Future the most thematically biting offering thus far. Across the record, Finberg combs over relationships, ambitions and his own values for trouble spots and indignities, highlighting his findings and skewering as needed. Jabs at the absurdities of band life have been a focus since The Intelligence’s inception, but tunes like “Nocturnal Admissions,” “Refuse to Pay the Dues” (a sure-fire cornerstone of any Greatest Hits package assembled) and “Platinum Janitor” confront living in rock ’n’ roll with an honesty bordering on the sadistic. Songs like “Sex” and “Whip My Valet” (the band’s most singularly aggressive and punk moment ever) manage to be intensely personal ruminations, nervously humorous and all-out rockers simultaneously, all with a wink.

It’s precisely that charm coupled with intensity that makes The Intelligence so crave-worthy. Well, that and the copious panic-stabs of guitar. Vintage Future thankfully shows The Intelligence continuing to move in whatever goddamn direction they want, keeping it permanently casual in this inhuman Business That We Call Show. Is there any better way?

DAN MELCHIOR'S BROKE REVIEW - LORDS OF THE MANOR

In The Red is stoked to announce this brand new full length release from DMBR. Available now on LP/CD. First 200 LPs on GREEN vinyl.

It’s been a long time since the world heard from Dan Melchior’s Broke Revue. Their last album, O Clouds Unfold!, was recorded in 2004 and was posthumously released in 2009. During their five year existence, the band’s sound evolved from raw, blues-based rock ’n’ roll to a more experimental / post-punk style. Since the band disbanded, Melchior has carried on with a solo career that has been prolific, to say the very least. The volume of singles, albums and cassettes that he’s churned out over the past decade has been staggering.

Now, after a ten-year hiatus, Melchior has reassembled the Broke Revue and (in record time) recorded a new album. Lords of the Manor takes a very different turn from the band’s last album. O Clouds Unfold! was an voluminous showcase of Melchior’s infectious and melodic songwriting, with layers of extra instrumentation spanning 23 songs. Lords of the Manor is an entirely different beast; song structure and instrumentation are stripped to the bare bones, melody is ditched in favor of repetition, Dan’s usual lyrical style is jettisoned for a far more minimal approach and the band’s previous penchant for tightly-crafted two-to-three-minute rock songs has given way to long, sprawling improvisations. The result is dark, relentless and incredible.

COMING SOON: 7”s from: Wolfmanhattan Project, Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Milk Lines, Ex-Cult, GØGGS.

Albums by: The Intelligence, Milk Lines, Fuzz, Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds, Traditional Fools, Tyvek, GØGGS and many more...

NEW NEW NEW December 09 2014

New vinyl-only releases from In The Red

Arndales – Regional Treasure / Padded Posts 7”

ITR 272

The UK's Arndales are back with two more songs of angular, menacing pummel from men who you wouldn't suspect actually do hate noise. Edition of 500. This single should be on the list! First 100 on yellow vinyl.

Pampers – Right Tonight 7” EP

ITR 278

Four brand new tracks from Brooklyn's Pampers. Anyone who dug their self-titled debut album from last year (or the two singles that preceded it) will no doubt flip for these four new slabs of thug punk. Hints of pop hooks and post-punk song structures struggle to be identified amid the break-neck pace. Great stuff! First 100 on greeny-yellowy vinyl.

Endless Bummer – Vol. 1 LP

ITR 271

Los Angeles garage/punk band Endless Bummer follow up their debut EP, Ripper Current, with this full-length featuring 13 sonic slabs of wallop guaranteed to please any self-respecting fan of trash rock. Recorded by Ty Segall at his now defunct Sweat Lodge studio. First 100 on yellow vinyl with red splatter.

Lance Barresi and Liz Tooley may not be big garage names like Ty Segall or John Dwyer are, but as the founders of Permanent Records they're arguably just as important. They're responsible for putting out rippers by Purling Hiss, Cave, Running, Charles Albright, Obnox, Bitchin Bajas, and many others. Endless Bummer lives up to their noisy legacy. Joined by the Spits' Greg Toumassian, they churn out four songs of sludgy, dark, screaming garage pop.”

Red Aunts – Come Up For A Closer Look double LP

ITR 270

The Red Aunts were an all-female punk band that formed in 1991 in Long Beach, California, when Terri Wahl (guitar/vocals) recruited friends Kerry Davis (guitar/vocals), Debi Martini (bass/vocals), and Lesley Ishino (drums). Their brand of unfiltered music is toxic, taking a sharp claw to every riot grrrl cliché it can shred. After five albums, several years of touring, and a huge fan base, they called it quits in 1998. The girls recently decided it was time to wake people up and save the music with their unique form of ROCK. This is their “greatest hits” compilation, 'COME UP FOR A CLOSER LOOK' - a gatefold sleeve double album, complete with killer art and photos, plus liner notes by Red Aunts fan, Sasha Frere-Jones. First 100 on red with black splatter vinyl.

"The Red Aunts are nothing to mess with....wonderfully reckless rock."

- L.A. Times

And some non vinyl goodies...

T-shirt:

In The Red is proud to unveil this swank new limited edition t-shirt that features totally badass collage artwork from our own Igor. This six color design comes on super-soft, thin 100% ring-spun cotton tees. We've used discharge ink which is thinner and softer than the usual plastisol screen printing ink and keeps you from getting a sweaty chest. Comes on off-white/oatmeal color tees. Stoked!

Cook Book:

Theresa Wahl was singer and guitarist in the Red Aunts back in the 90's. She's currently the chef and owner of Auntie Em's Kitchen in L.A.'s Eagle Rock neighborhood where she's been wowing the locals with her incredible breakfasts, lunches and desserts for more than a decade. She's even been featured on several Food Network television shows. She's been a long-time advocate of In The Red and vice versa so it's with great pride that we are offering her brand-new, first-ever cookbook! This beautiful hardbound book is loaded with all her best recipes and gorgeous color photos of the finished dishes. She even pairs each dish with a playlist of her favorite songs by the likes of Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, The Cramps, Gun Club, ect. Foreward written by In The Red's Larry Hardy. If you're picking up our new Red Aunts retrospective you should grab one of these too! Food and music go great together.

Meet Your Meat September 29 2014

In The Red is proud to announce the debut album from the Meatbodies. Unabashed, unrestrained, beautiful and strange. Meatbodies, birthed from the mind of Los Angeles-bred Chad Ubovich, are going to dominate your eyes and ears and give you a bang over like you've never had before.

But first, a little history on how Meatbodies came to be. Chad Ubovich began ripping through the rock scene in 2011 as guitarist (previously bassist) for Mikal Cronin and, eventually, bassist in FUZZ. In between tours, he spent his time recording and playing shows around Los Angeles under the name Chad and the Meatbodies. In 2012, Ty Segall released some of Chad's bedroom recordings via cassette tape on his GOD? Records imprint. The tape was well received and people began to see Chad was more than just a sideman to his heavy hitting comrades. In 2013, In The Red took notice of Chad's crunching, grinding sound and added his band, now simply called Meatbodies to their roster.

For the first Meatbodies LP, titled Meatbodies, Chad chose to record in San Francisco, utilizing the foggy, psychedelic atmosphere provided by it's surroundings, as well as the powers of master studio magician Eric "King Riff" Bauer (known for his work with Mikal Cronin, Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, White Fence, FUZZ and more). Chad busted out an album's worth of songs, barely leaving the Technicolor underground quarters of Bauer's trippy sanctuary. Though Chad and Bauer worked mostly alone, a dream team of friends, including Cory Hanson (Wand), Ty Segall, Erik Jimenez (Together Pangea) and Riley Youngdahl, made contributions taking the album to the next level before Chris Woodhouse took on the mixing, giving the songs final touches of controlled chaos. The end result is a sonic experience that is truly evocative of its auteur.

You can pre-order the album now. The first 200 are on color vinyl and will go quickly.

Also available are these suave Meatbodies t-shirts. Available in chocolate brown on light grey tee or yellow on blue tee.

Bored? August 20 2014

In The Red is proud to announce the new double vinyl reissue of The Intelligence's debut album, Boredom And Terror. Originally released on Narnack records in 2004, Boredom And Terror is the first time Lars Finberg stepped out from behind the A-Frames' drum kit to showcase his own music. Later releases by the Intelligence were fleshed out with additional musicians but on this debut album Lars was an army of one armed with an 8 track recorder and a notebook full of songs. The results are as original as they are incredible. This is lo-fi post punk electro garage-core that is equal parts Devo, The Fall and something altogether it's own.

This new edition of Boredom And Terror has been newly remastered. The original vinyl release contained an 11 track bonus CD which we have included here as a second LP. Both housed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve. The first 200 copies come on grey with black splatter vinyl.

" Lars Finberg, the lo-fi dandy of West Seattle, locked his front door and pressed the record button on his favorite eight-track machine and made songs that could be either ecclesiastic alien probes, Hank Williams going electro-slash, or John Lennon making friends with a video game. "
- Insound
