From their early day gigs in '93 at Detroit 'Nam-vet watering hole The Old Miami, to their Spring '96 slot warming Iggy Pop's toilet seat up the US west coast, the Doll Rod's music and stage show have coalesced into a truly sick spectacle of primitive and perverse FREEDOM ROCK!
The Doll Rods are a one-band movement, a lifestyle high-colonic, an Rn'B T&A circus garnering legions of new fans wherever they go. They do happen to make a few people pretty fucking uncomfortable just by being so damn comfortable with themselves, but if that's the case, just relax and let them wildly diddle your not-so secret spot. If you wanna shake your ass, well, just come on...
The Doll Rods are: Cristine (drums) - sex bomb metrnome who lives in a sound world all her own. Margaret (vocals, guitar) - singer/songwriter/ringleader. She literally bends over backwards for your pleasure. Danny (guitar, vocals) - school of hard licks graduate (formerly in the Gories). What little clothes he wears indicates he's in drag. And baby, if you can't hang with that, you can just go home.
Secret origins: Sisters Margaret and Cristine were caught dirty dancing to soul sisters Martha Whitney and Sugar Pie DeSanto and shipped off to catholic school. It was there that they met soulmate Danny, busy sinning to the Ramones and the Runaways. And one velvet morning, run away is what they did, in order to realize their dreams of rocking in an "all-girl" kind of way.
Perma-tour: The Doll Rods enjoy a legendary reputation amongst this nation's Teamsters, who collect and trade stories and videotapes of the band's nearly nude truckstop yoga sessions. Sure, these love-making problem children have toiled in the basement like all the rest, but make no mistake, they're a well-lubed touring machine who've come into their sound through tens of thousands of miles of good old fashioned road work. They've whipped audiences into a frenzied state on their tours with Iggy Pop, Blues Explosion, Boss Hog, Guitar Wolf and Quintron.
Dietary considerations: The Doll Rods happily consume lotus root, kale, millet; adamantly shun deadly nightshade family members eggplant, green & red peppers, tomatoes and potatoes. They enthusiastically endorse Smooth Move herbal laxative.
Recorded output: The Doll Rods released singles for Womb/Past It, Bulb, Bag Of Hammers and In The Red before unleashing their monstrous debut "Tasty" on In The Red records. "Tasty" was produced by Mick Collins and Jon Spencer over two separate sessions - it's a masterpiece. Their latest album, "TLA" was released on Matador records - it's another masterpiece.
